The Lonely Merman (Landlocked Heart book 1) is OUT TODAY!

Yay! Release day is here!  You can now hook yourself a lonely merman at Less Than Three Press,,, Kobo, Smashwords, and Siren Bookstrand.

If you decide to read, I really hope you enjoy my little tale.  I am very happy to answer any questions about the story, characters or the rest of the series here or at my twitter @kayberrisford.

The series tells the saga of Ben, a mild-mannered environmental officer, and Lyle, a flamboyant merman with a tragic past. Its got magic, shapeshifting, tentacle-like fins (!), cute romance, a ton of pain and angst, and a light sprinkling of lovemaking. In latter books, it’s also got the odd dragon hanging around…

Anyway, please behold the lovely cover and scroll down for more info…

Blurb: It’s Friday afternoon, and the last thing Ben wants to be doing is trudging through a wet forest in search of a public hazard. But duty calls, and turns out more exciting than Ben imagined when he encounters a magical ruin, an enchanted pool, and Lyle—a merman who’s cursed to be landlocked many miles from the sea.

Lyle is flamboyant and exciting—he’s got tentacles, for goodness sake!—and Ben falls hard. But Lyle’s been hurt before and finds trust difficult, refusing even to reveal how to break the curse that imprisons him. Ben’s just an ordinary guy, and can’t help wondering if he can ever be the hero Lyle needs, let alone endure the endless camping trip in the woods…

Genre: Contemporary paranormal m/m romance.

Blurb: When the king commands former war hero Captain Jay Ghair to find him the perfect royal sex slave, Jay’s quiet new life as a librarian is shattered. Jay discovers the boy he’s looking for in Alix, a lowly miner and wannabe court scientist, whom Jay can’t help but secretly adore. However, teaching the rebellious Alix to be a docile slave is difficult. Alix will behave for just one man, and it isn’t the king. It’s Jay.

Standing by while the king’s treatment of Alix becomes cruel is torturous for Jay. He longs to return to his library, yet he can’t bear to leave Alix, or his people, unprotected. To rescue Alix—and save the realm from the increasingly tyrannical king—Jay must confront the demons of his military past and take up the sword again. But his most important battle must be won through returning Alix’s love and learning to master this bad slave who submits only for him. LGBTTQ, BDSM & Fetish, Fantasy & Paranormal

Reviews for Bad Slave:

Pixie at MM Good Book Reviews wrote: “Perfectly written, nicely timed, and paced with some angst and danger but with some beautiful D/s moments… I recommend this to those who love medieval type fantasy, delicious D/s, brutal BDSM, a great storyline, a hot hero and an ex-miner finding love… oh and rescuing a kingdom!” Read more.

Hearts on Fire gave the book a solid four star review, though it seems to have conjured some strong emotions in the reviewer. I’ll take that as a good thing given her decent rating for the read. At least she’ll remember my book, and it seems I created a hiss-worthy villain and a truly heartbreaking hero! Read more.

Leatherskater at Mrs Condit and Friends says: “I loved Alix’s strengths, and Jay’s compassion, and realized, even if it was set in the dungeon world of slaves and kings and BDSM, it was a good love story of two souls just meant to be together, by their own needs and wants alone. In the end, that’s what a good story is. Something that makes you think afterwards on it.” Read more.

Annette Gisby at Zipper Rippers says: “Bad Slave is very well written, it almost has a poetic or lyrical feel to it and the style of the language used steeps it in the realm of fantasy rather than the mundane world. … It is above all things a love story and you will be rooting for Jay and Alix to get their happy ending, despite the angst to get there”. Jay at Joyfully Jay writes: Bad Slave is an interesting take on the master/slave genre with a lot of neat angles that I really liked. Read more.

Crystal from Crystal’s Many Reviews says: “I do think that the author did an amazing job with the characters, all of them. No matter how minor of a role the character had, the author thought to describe them in a way that they stood out from each other. This was a really good read for me and I will be sure to see what other books the author has released!” Read more.
