Viki Lyn blogs on her plans for 2014 – and her FREE READ!

The awesome Viki Lyn is back with a new free read for Xmas, Christmas Crossroads! And she’s blogging about a topic very dear to my heart, making sure writing is JOY not JOB :) Meanwhile, I’m blogging over at Viki’s about my Xmas story, Gifts from the Tree, part of Christmas Delights :) :) :) Go there now!

viki2December marks the end of the year. It’s a time of completion and this means new beginnings. This last year my creativity was in hibernation. I have been creating artwork for over fifteen years, writing for seven years. I hit a low about February, needing a break from all aspects of my creative life. This girl just wanted to have fun with her family and friends, travel, read and rest.

First of course I beat myself up for not writing or publishing a book. My readers would forget me in this ‘got to have a book out every month’ publishing world we live in. But I lost my passion for it – the writing, the business and the social media world. I considered not writing at all. When I emailed a friend telling him about my crisis, he told me that I had to ask myself – is writing Joy not Job. That for me was an ah-ha moment. When had I put aside the joy I feel when I come up with a new story and characters? That excitement putting the first words down on a page? I wanted to feel that way again.

Viki's amazing artwork.

Viki’s amazing artwork.

I gave myself permission to relax, have fun and not worry about publishing a book. I took an art class and went back into my art studio. Working with my hands, not my head, freed me up. I began to have fun again – painting, collaging and writing. Slowly, my attitude began to change and how I perceived writing. My fears and blocks began to fall away as I wrote for the pleasure of it, without worrying about the future.

These past three months, I recommitted to my writing and have several book projects that will be published in 2014. I am focusing on the joy of creating, bringing my ideas to form and sharing it with others. I am grateful for my readers, publishers and family and friends that have stuck by me.

Have a wonderful holiday season!

Free read from Musa Publishing for the holidays: Christmas Crossroads is a free read featuring Leo and Andre from Lover’s Trill.DOWNLOAD IT NOW

Classical and rock come together in perfect harmony but Andre finds his trust in Leo tested. Leo must prove his loyalty by using their one common passion – music – to bind their hearts.

Rocker Leo needs a break. From the band, roadies, everything related to his present life. Wandering the streets of Vienna after his show, he chances upon a poster that just might change his life. Andre Revele, renowned violinist, and Leo’s ex-lover from college, is performing in the city. It’s been years since Leo slipped out of Andre’s life in the middle of the night, but he’s never forgotten their passionate love of music and each other.

Andre is shocked when Leo shows up backstage after his performance. Shocked and angry, but he can’t walk away from his ex-lover. Against his better judgment, he invites Leo to his hotel for a drink.  Not sure what he wants from Leo, he knows what his body wants. A night of passionate sex leads to another, until he’s lost his heart to Leo again.

Happy to wander aimlessly, Leo slipped his hands into his fleeced-lined jacket. Living in LA, he forgot how cold it could be in February. He turned the corner and sputtered to a halt. Staring at the poster pasted to the side of a building, he didn’t need to read the name spelled in bold letters across the poster to know who it was. He could never forget that face in rapture — when playing or getting off. Music and sex had invoked the same feelings in Andre Revele. Passion was passion, and that man always had both in spades.

The black and white picture showed Andre playing the violin. Numbness swept across Leo as he stared at Andre caressing the bow in those slender-fingered hands — such artistic hands on a large man. It had been love at first sight — or at least lust — when Leo had walked into the practice room.

He could still remember a youthful Andre, not quite grown into his robust physique, as he played the last stanza of Bach’s Concerto in E. The violin’s notes had faded into magic dust, the music echoing in the atmosphere long after the performance was over. Bright green eyes peered through dark lashes and sensual pouty lips morphed into a shy smile. That’s all it took for the seed of love to be planted in Leo’s musical heart.

He scanned the poster for the dates of the virtuoso’s concert. Tomorrow night was the last performance. Leo shuffled on his feet, unable to move away. He bit his lip and traced the image of Andre. Did he dare go?
