Excerpt one: Sea Change by Nessa Vincent
It seemed to take a long time for Grant to get to him. Long enough for Ben to notice every detail. Long enough to wonder what would happen when Grant got close enough to touch or kiss. And meanwhile Ben stood there like an idiot, probably gaping, as Grant came right up to him and stopped. It would be great, he thought frantically, if he could find some reserves of suaveness right about now.
Ben’s gaze was level with Grant’s chin. He found himself entranced by Grant’s pecs, unbelievably firm looking and muscular.
“I’m up here.”
Ben snapped his gaze up to find Grant smiling at him.
Ben opened his mouth, reaching for something witty and coming up with, “Hi.”
He felt a blush rising, but Grant grabbed the front of Ben’s shirt, tugging him forward.
Lowering his face, he growled, “Hi, yourself.” Then he planted his lips on Ben’s.
Grant’s tongue pressed his lips, and Ben opened his mouth to him. His knees felt watery; it was a good thing Grant was holding him up. Half consciously he leaned his chest forward. Grant’s fingers unlocked from the material of Ben’s shirt, instead reaching around his ribs, coasting down his lower back, hugging him closer.
QUESTION ONE: How did Ben’s knees feel?
Excerpt two: The Cost of Secrets by Cassandra Gold
Under the light of the dim streetlamp, Isaac’s expression seemed hesitant. A little shy. His voice was quiet when he spoke. “I had a really good time tonight.”
“Me too.” Dan decided to go for broke. “I don’t want it to be over.”
Even in the low light, Isaac’s slow, bright smile was stunning. “I know. Me neither.” Then he sighed. “But I have to work both jobs tomorrow, and I still have some homework to do.”
“Man. That sucks.”
Isaac huffed out a surprised laugh. “Yeah, it does. I can’t wait to be done with my degree and hopefully have one job.”
“I can imagine.”
“It’s pretty sad when one of my biggest wishes is something as simple as going to see a movie.”
Dan couldn’t let such a perfect opportunity pass. “Maybe we could go see one sometime. You know, when you’re not busy.”
“I’d like that.”
Buoyed by Isaac’s quick acceptance, Dan dared to bring his hand up to cup Isaac’s cheek. He traced his thumb along the cheekbone. Isaac’s skin was soft and smooth, with the barest hint of stubble.
Isaac’s eyelids dropped shut, and he leaned into Dan’s hand as if he was savoring the touch. He leaned toward Dan slowly, hesitant. Like maybe he was as nervous as Dan was.
Dan’s heart pounded. He shifted forward to remove the short distance between them with a combination of terror and yearning. With his eyes closed, Isaac looked impossibly sweet and somehow innocent.
And then their lips touched, and every thought flew from Dan’s head. For a suspended second, he remained motionless, the sheer beauty of the moment stealing his breath. His eyelids fell closed.
Isaac’s lips parted beneath his. Dan shifted slightly to brush his mouth across Isaac’s once, twice. Then, finally, he sealed their mouths together, making a tentative foray along Isaac’s tongue with his own. The slick heat sent shivers of desire through him. He’d thought about kissing another man often enough, but experiencing it was far beyond what he’d imagined. He curled his hand around Isaac’s nape, sifting his fingers through Isaac’s hair.
He would have loved to sit and kiss Isaac all night. His long-denied body screamed at him, asking for more. But as much as he might want to take things as far as he could tonight, it wasn’t the right time. He knew that much.
He forced himself to draw back from Isaac, who opened his eyes and blinked at Dan.
Dan rubbed the back of Isaac’s neck, one last caress, before he released him. “I’ll call you, okay?”
Isaac raised a hand to touch his lips, eyes wide. He looked a little dazed, but he nodded. Then he smiled and slipped out of the car without another word.
Dan watched him go, already counting the minutes until he could see him again.
QUESTION TWO: What does Isaac’s skin feel like?
Excerpt three: Hidden Threat by Sherri Hayes
A deep moan tore from Matthew’s chest as he realized she wasn’t going to stop him. He took her face in his hands and claimed her mouth with his. It felt like he had been drowning, and she was his life raft. This was not a soft, sensual kiss. This was a kiss of desperation. A kiss of need, not want. And Cali needed it just as much as Matthew.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled herself flush against him, not a whisper of space between them. Her body felt perfect against his. So much better than he’d imagined.
Wrapping his own arms around her waist, Matthew sucked on her lips until they opened for him. They both moaned as their tongues came together and explored. The taste of her! He couldn’t get enough. The kiss increased in intensity as the passion they’d both been repressing for the last three weeks ignited into flames.
Matthew backed her up against the counter and lifted her up onto the hard granite surface. Their lips parted briefly, but quickly found each other once again as Cali’s legs parted, inviting him in as he stepped between them.
Cali wasn’t thinking; she could only feel. Her hands cupped his face, exploring with her fingers, as well as her mouth. She’d dreamed about this many times, but nothing compared to the real thing. He was hard and soft at the same time. Perfect.
Matthew’s hands ran up her thighs, feeling the muscles beneath his palms for the first time. More kept repeating in his head. He took hold of her hips and pulled her closer, feeling the heat of her through her jeans.
QUESTION THREE: What does Matthew lift Cali up onto?
Excerpt four: Alpha 3: Home by Treva Harte
She’d wondered about him before. When the most gorgeous were west of the Mississippi lived as close as Rome did, you wondered. He hadn’t ever acknowledged her in particular. Not at high school, even when they were the only weres there. He might have looked her over then sometimes, she thought. Mia couldn’t imagine why.
It wasn’t just that they’d come from different were packs, even though the packs were friendlier than most. But they also had little in common except being were. Rome had been a grade behind her but she’d envied his assurance. Mia had always been afraid she might betray who she really was among the non-were. Not so Rome. There was no cowering for him. She’d faded into the hallways while Rome swaggered down them, oozing attitude and daring anyone to stop him.
No one did. No one dared. She didn’t want to now.
“You want me to show you how much I like you, Mia?” His smile was as lethally assured as it had been when he was on the football team.
“You know, no one would ever take you for an Omega.”
“That’s because I’m not. I’m a lone wolf.”
“My God!” Mia raised her hand to her lips to hide the gasp. “When did this happen?”
That was a life every pack member knew to avoid at all costs. The life of a lone wolf was dangerous, often violent, and usually all too short. It’s what her brother had to become when he’d been punished and exiled. No one had heard of him again.
“Tonight. As of tonight I don’t belong to anyone.” Rome didn’t look afraid, but she saw the pulse hammer in his throat. She could sense the emotions roiling inside him.
Fear? Regret? Desire? All of that and more. Rome had feelings all right, just waiting to leap out if someone wanted to let them free.
What about belonging to me?
Mia bit her tongue, the need to ask that very wrong question was so great. Then she yelped at the pain of the bite. Her teeth were lengthening, sharpening – she was close to The Change. Dear Lord, Rome was exciting her enough to make her turn were.
“What about being with me?” That was Rome’s voice, almost echoing her thoughts. “For tonight?”
That was almost, but not quite what she’d been thinking.
Rome kissed her and she forgot everything else. She put her arms around him. “Close enough. Staying with you tonight sounds…fine.”
QUESTION FOUR: What does Rome say he is – an Omega or a lone wolf?
Excerpt five: Scavengers by K.A. Merikan
James gasped and felt a shiver down his spine when he looked into Ira’s eyes, as if he were looking at God himself. “A man like you had never approached me…” he whispered and his erection became stiffer, under the suitcase.
“And if one would… show me what he would do to you,” Ira murmured, running his fingers down James’ arm and into the suitcase, “Show me.”
James couldn’t force himself to speak of these things, but showing Ira a picture seemed more possible. All of a sudden, he started a frantic search for the picture that came to his mind. He had pleasured himself to it uncountable times. Finally he found it and turned it to Ira, with cheeks red and a pant escaping from his lips. The drawing was of a young man bent over a wooden gate in a stable, his trousers pulled down and buttocks fully exposed to another man, behind him: older, bigger, rough looking, with a big stiff cock sticking out of his breeches. They weren’t having sex just yet, but it was obvious what would happen in the next few seconds. There was a tension in the younger mans arms as he was gripping the gate with both hands, while he was being held down by the other man at the back of the neck.
Even looking at it now, made James feel flustered and it appeared as though it had the same effect on Ira. The man licked his lip, grunting loudly and bit the side of his partner’s face hungrily.
“You’d like it, huh? Being bent over and fucked like a mare with a stallion’s cock?” he insisted, pulling the younger man even closer, with urgency. James could see that his dick was fully erect and ready.
And what a piece it was: long and fat, topping a heavy sack and growing out of a thick bush of dark hair, which trailed down the older man’s thighs and over his abdomen. Strangely, the foreskin didn’t cover the head of the penis, but James wouldn’t let that bother him.
“I do feel that concept is extremely attractive,” he swallowed, looking down at the other man’s body. In comparison, he was extremely fair skinned, but his torso and crotch were covered with some dark hair.
Ira smiled wickedly. “What else do you want?” he urged the aristocrat, seemingly unable to stop himself from touching him.
James smiled lightly and reciprocated the caress, moving closer to kiss his lips. “I want you,” he said. “You seem like such a strong, free man, willing to just take whatever he wants…” He already imagined how this throbbing flesh would tear into his body. Ira hissed loudly, grabbing his face in a tight grip and opening his lips in a brusque manner. His warm tongue teased James’ as they fell into the clean covers. The suitcase slid from the younger man’s knees and he heard it hitting the floor with a thud, but he could not care less. The weight of hard, naked flesh on top of him seemed to be the most important thing in the universe at that moment.”
QUESTION FIVE: What is the young man in the drawing bending over?
